It is with mixed emotions that we are informing everyone that we will no longer be hosting Pancakes for a Purpose. It has been a successful ten years and we DID make a difference!! Thank you to ALL who have supported this cause (and will hopefully continue to do so).
If you think you would like to organize a similar event going forward, feel free to contact me for any resources that may be helpful.
This event was created in memory of Dave Anstadt. Unfortunately, it is now also in memory of my brother-in-law, John Bradley, who lost his fight to pancreatic cancer in 2014. Both are sorely missed. The Pancakes for a Purpose event has been created to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer research. All proceeds will be donated to The Lustgarten Foundation where they work tirelessly on Pancreatic Cancer Research. Thanks to private funding, 100% of every dollar donated goes directly to pancreatic cancer resear
The American Cancer Society’s estimates for pancreatic cancer in the United States for 2020 are:
Pancreatic cancer accounts for about 3% of all cancers in the US and about 7% of all cancer deaths.
There are a number of reasons why pancreatic cancer is so deadly. No early screening tests are available, as there are for colorectal, breast and many other cancers. Often there are no symptoms or signs of pancreatic cancer until the disease has progressed. The few symptoms that are common with pancreatic cancer are vague – fatigue, digestive distress and back pain – and they're all easily attributed to other causes. And this particular cancer is resistant to current chemotherapy agents. With research, there is hope: research offers hope for an early detection test, more effective long-term treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
